International Success of Our Faculty Members: Research on Sea Turtles Published in a Prestigious Journal
The study titled “Assessment of metal distribution patterns in loggerhead sea turtles: A comparative analysis based on sex and tissue type”, conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür KUZUKIRAN and Asst. Prof. Dr. İlker ŞİMŞEK from Şabanözü Vocational School of our university, has been published in Marine Pollution Bulletin, a prestigious international journal in the fields of environmental and marine sciences. The journal is indexed in the Web of Science Q1 category and has an Impact Factor of 4.9.
This significant study analyzes the distribution of 19 metals based on tissue type and sex in samples taken from stranded individuals of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) along the Mediterranean coasts of Türkiye.
The data obtained from the study contribute to a better understanding of the biological mechanisms of metal accumulation in sea turtles and serve as an important reference dataset for monitoring metal pollution in the Mediterranean ecosystem. Furthermore, the research highlights that sex is a critical biological factor that should be considered in ecotoxicological studies.
